Primal Scream are re-releasing their ground-breaking album Sreamadelica, which is celebrating its twentieth year!

There is a special release for diehard fans a 20th Anniversary Collectors release that includes, a thermoplastic circular container that has a 12inch record, 7inch, 4cds, DVD, Art Cards, and a Slipmat.

What’s behind the group and the essence of the original idea of the Screamadelica album?

The group was headed by former drummer of The Jesus and Mary Chain Scottish

group Bobby Gillespie. Primal Scream was formed in 1982, but Bobby’s commitment to The Jesus and Mary Chain meant that he had limited availability to get Primal Scream’s music recorded and released. However things kicked-off when Bobby left The Jesus and Mary Chain, and he could concentrate full-time on Primal Scream.

The Screamadelica album was the groups third album, and was a turning-point for the group’s direction. Out was the indie-rock sound and what came was a sampled led alternative rock with electronic beats and other elements in a cooking pot of fusion.

The track that features “I’m gonna do, what I’m gonna do,” Loaded reached top twenty in the charts put the template for the group to work towards.

Movin’ On Up is a classic track with gospel singers, rock

guitar, and a percussive beat. This song may some familiar as it does contain elements from Amazing Grace, and some lyrics from Can’s ‘Yoo Doo Right’ but the whole tune is Primal Scream’s!

Don’t Fight it, Feel It has what has become the piano anthem of generations included, with the singer multi-layered through this groovy song. Come Together is a mega ten minute song,

with Jesse Jackson speech sampled into it with a singer repeating,

‘Together as one’ with a lovely bass kick-drum marching throughout.

Higher Than The Sun is a spacey track with trademark electronic bass

Line, and Bobby singing in his airy trademark voice, while halfway through it

has a killer melody. Funky tune Slip Inside This House is a mash-up of funky

bass, Indian sounds, a hooky piano riff, and Bobby’s vocals!      Dylan Thompson
